Success stories about the NCD process abound. The following is part of a letter from Gary Jarvis at New Hope Community Church about his experience with NCD:
In the first quarter of 2006, New Hope Community Church embarked on a journey called Natural Church Development. The purpose of the journey was to improve the health of the Church. It required discipline, but it was also a formative process. At the close of the journey through the first NCD Cycle we have learned much more about ourselves and our church. Some of the key things we learned:
- Momentum was not always easy to maintain
- Prayer is absolutely necessity
- Utilized our strengths when working on our Minimum Factor
- Utilized a variety of communication techniques to keep the congregation in the loop
- The Church Health Team was extremely important
- Good Coaching is vital for momentum and success
- Utilize the Growth Forces
The things we can celebrate in our two year journey with NCD:
- We are becoming more of a listening church
- Passionate spirituality was impacted and gift-based ministry is beginning to take shape
- We found a purpose and a plan for our Church
- The purpose and plan helped us take action
- There were some great Aha moments
- The church is thinking differently in planning outreach events
- We are identifying and mobilizing leaders
- We are positioning people according to gifts
- Through coaching we are learning the importance of the Action-Reflection-Action Process
