The benefits of the online coaching tool:
How many times have you met for a coaching session, spent the first 15 minutes trying to figure out the agenda, then spent the last 15 minutes hammering out action plans that go uncompleted? CoachNet has a solution: online coaching.
CoachNet's online coaching function can help build structure and accountability into the coaching relationship. Our coaching area gives you the ability to track your coaching appointments using online coaching sessions.
Why not just use email?
Sometimes people ask, "Why not just use email to prepare for coaching relationships?" Certainly email is a piece of the preparation. CoachNet incorporates email, but goes beyond it. Using email alone can be hard to organize, with individual pieces often getting lost. The online coaching tool is a management system that provides structure to the coaching relationship, and puts all the necessary tools at your disposal in the same place. When you've prepared a session for review, you can send an email to the session participant(s) so you're literally on the same page.
Additional accountability
"In the early stages of coaching people, I ended up becoming the record keeper and the only instrument for their accountability," says Colin Noyes. "This limited the number of people I could coach. For a while now I have been using the coaching section of CoachNet and get the person who is being coached to do most of the work. The online record then becomes the primary point of accountability. This system has been great for everyone involved." Online coaching allows the person being coached to set their own goals and then follow up on them. Having written goals and a structure in place helps people accomplish their goals more consistently.
Increased effectiveness
Use of CoachNet's online tool can easily double the effectiveness of your coaching. When people use CoachNet's online tool to prepare in advance for coaching sessions, they gain perspective and focus the agenda on the truly important. By logging the insights and outcomes that were discussed you can always go back to review and follow up on key issues. Assigning action items with a due date increases accountability for follow through - both for you and for the leader you're coaching. When it comes time to review the coaching relationship, you can go back to note progress and achievements, as well as evaluate your own coaching skills.
"Online coaching has significantly raised my level of effectiveness and productivity and is helping me keep first things first. There's a lot to be said for the continuity of record-keeping available online. When I look back over the summary, I can see the long-term process all together. It's helped me personally too, beyond the arena of ministry..." - Tom De Vries

Based on the research of Dr. Robert Logan and Dr. Gary Reinecke, our Online Coach Assessment provides you with an accurate measurement of your effectiveness as a coach, and how you compare to others.
In addition to self-assessment, you can ask up to seven people to evaluate you from their perspective. Ideally, you will want to include people you are coaching (coachees), as they have the most direct experience of your coaching. You can also include a fellow coach who knows you well or even your supervisor, giving you a full 360-degree review. After receiving feedback, you will instantly receive a 20-page report with your scores, interpretation (including how you measure up against other coaches), and improvement actions.
Please see the following topics for more information about how the quality and benefits of our assessment.

Feedback. When you received your training as a coach, you probably received supervised feedback to help you unlearn old habits and learn new ones. Where is your feedback coming from now?
Pinpoint areas for improvement. Identify the specific microskill(s) where you can improve, and design a personalized plan to increase your competence in this area. For example, if you are a competitive swimmer, you need to look at all aspects of your performance. You may discover that where you are losing time is in the turns...so you can work on that dimension to improve your capacity as a swimmer. Same for coaching.
The Online Coach Assessment offers valid, research-based information about your skill level. In addition to a self-assessment we highly recommend that you get the opinions of those you are coaching and of others who have observed your coaching. The Online Assessment will incorporate feedback from as many as seven additional people (coachees, peers, and/or supervisors) offering full 360-degree capabilities.
As feedback is received, results are immediately available online to view, print or email.
Qualitative Research. Dr. Robert Logan and Dr. Gary Reinecke conducted an international qualitative research project mentored by Dr. Charles Ridley to determine the competencies of excellent Christian coaches. The nine competencies can be organized into three categories:
Foundational: Abiding in Christ, Self-assessing, Communicating
Relational: Establishing, Supporting, Concluding
Strategic: Diagnosing, Planning, Monitoring
Each competency is defined by 5-7 specific behavioral dimensions called microskills. The research results and resources for increasing your effectiveness as a coach can be found in Developing Coaching Excellence by Robert E. Logan and Gary B. Reinecke (ChurchSmart Resources, 2003).
Validity and Reliability. Building on the results of the qualitative research project, Logan and Reinecke then designed an online questionnaire to be completed by the coach and others (those being coached, peers, and/or supervisors). The questions for use in this survey were selected scientifically by conducting a reliability test (Cronbach) on the pilot data. Further tests will be conducted with new data to verify how high scores correlate with coaches' performance.
Summary. The Online Coach Assessment provides you with an accurate measurement of your overall effectiveness as a coach, pinpoints specific opportunities for improvement and gives guidance to help you design specific action plans for growth.

Competency Description Pages. This report contains two pages for each of the nine competencies. The first page provides a summary definition of the competency and microskills and your specific scores displayed graphically with interpretation of low, medium and high scores. The second page gives tips and helps, including reflection questions and a sample of improvement actions. Developing Coaching Excellence expands on the Tips and Helps given in this report. It goes deeper into the step-by-step process of identifying action steps in a Personal Development Plan. You will be challenged to master the nine competencies assessed in the online profile by referring to expanded material under "Coach Development" to create your plan.

As our name implies, CoachNet believes that coaching is essential for effective ministry. Based on qualitative research, we have developed an easily transferrable model for coaching, along with tools that allow both new and experienced coaches to improve their coaching effectiveness.
CoachNet offers:
For example, a denominational group wanted to see Natural Church Development coaches raised up to facilitate the growth of healthy churches. CoachNet's team worked with leaders to identify and train coaches in a reproducible process, then walked with them through their first coaching assignments in the NCD cycle. By empowering the denomination's own coaches and giving them the necessary training material, CoachNet has facilitated the group's self-sufficiency. They are now able to train their own leaders so their churches will have skilled coaches for future NCD cycles.
Coaching is fundamental to everything we do in ministry, from discipling new believers to developing new leaders. Dynamic churches and ministries have coaching woven into their genetic code. CoachNet's desire is to see people become intentional about coaching -- either in beginning to coach others or in improving the quality of coaching they currently deliver. Everybody talks about it... it's time to start doing it!
Receive qualified training
To coach people well and effectively, you need training. If you are to function as a guide, walking alongside someone as they venture onto new paths, you need to have a sense of the roadmap that lies ahead. That doesn't mean that you know where to go, or even that you've been there ahead of them. It just means you have the basic skills to guide them along each stage of their own unique path.
The training process is easy with CoachNet's Coach Certification program -- a specialized, comprehensive process that prepares Christian leaders to effectively coach and develop others.
